WCC elects executive committee

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee elected the WCC executive committee on 8 September during the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe.

The central committee elects 20 of its members to serve as the WCC executive committee of the WCC, along with the leadership of the central committee, which includes the moderator, two vice-moderators, and the WCC general secretary, as well as the moderators of its programme and finance committees.

“The executive committee shall be entrusted with and made accountable for specific governance authority and responsibility of the World Council of Churches as delegated by the central committee, with authority to establish limits and guidelines within which management and staff of the Council shall implement the policies and programs of the Council, “ reads the constitution and rules of the WCC. “The executive committee shall be accountable to the central committee, and shall present to each central committee meeting a report of its work.”

The executive committee appoints programme staff, monitors ongoing work, and supervises the budget approved by the central committee. The executive committee meets twice a year.

Among the elected executive committee members are 48% women and 52% men, 80% ordained and 20% lay, 8% Indigenous persons, 4% persons with disabilities and 12% youth.

  5. Rev. Karin VAN DEN BROEKE, Protestant Church in the Netherlands, moderator of the programme committee
  6. Rev. Rose Marie IBYISHAKA, Presbyterian Church in Rwanda
  7. Mr Brian MUYUNGA, Church of Uganda
  8. Rev. Joanes OWINO SIANG’A, Presbyterian Church of East Africa
